The second build to come out of the Middlesbrough yard Carvela was moved on a specially designed low loader system before being lifted in to the Tees.  She then steamed down to Whitby to be completed and then scheduled engine and fishing trials before leaving Whitby for Stromness.

Carvela is powered by a Mitsubishi S6A3 main engine (360kW @ 1,800rpm), coupled to a Reintjes WAF274 7.476:1 reduction gearbox. The two Mitsubishi 6DI6-based gensets also installed in the vivier-crabber’s engine room, together with a 25kW harbour set.  The KT90 DD bow thruster aids her maneuverability and the full length shelterdeck makes for better conditions for the 7 man crew.  Seawater for the 40t vivier hold is circulated by electrically driven Azcue pumps.
