The Daystar was the first of our specially designed new class of ‘round bilge’ trawlers, the type of layout that offers much greater fuel efficiency. She is prawn trawler featuring a customised three-barrel, two-speed trawl winch (35 tonnes) with a drum capacity for 750 fathoms of 22mm-diameter wire, two two-by-12-tonne split net drums, a seven-five tonne Gilson winch and two auxiliary gear-handling winches.  The vessel houses 20,000 litres of fuel in four tanks, including two double-bottomed tanks under the floor of the fishroom, which has a working capacity of 950 boxes. 19,000 litres of fresh water are carried in its bulbous bow tank, which supplies a 2.5-tonne Geneglace ice machine.
