Built by Parkol and delivered in 2025, North Eastern Guardian IV is a 24.5-metre aluminium catamaran designed for fast, dependable operations in demanding coastal conditions.
Designed by Chartwell Marine and developed from its Ambitious-class crew transfer vessel platform, the project demonstrates Parkol’s ability to translate a specialist operational requirement into a high-performance, UK-built vessel.
The requirement
The vessel needed to combine speed, endurance and dependable seakeeping with safe deck access, practical crew facilities and the onboard systems required for extended patrol duties.
The arrangement also needed to provide flexibility for changing operational requirements while remaining straightforward to maintain throughout the vessel’s working life.
Parkol’s solution
Constructed in aluminium and built to Workboat Code 3 Category 2 requirements, North Eastern Guardian IV combines a proven catamaran hull form with a mission-specific internal and deck arrangement.
The vessel includes modular below-deck sleeping accommodation, a full galley and carefully integrated navigation, safety, electrical and hydraulic systems.
Twin MAN IMO Tier III engines and ZF V-drive gearboxes provide efficient propulsion and support operating speeds of up to 24 knots. The machinery arrangement was developed to provide practical access for inspection, servicing and future maintenance.

Transferable offshore capability
Although configured for patrol duties, the vessel incorporates many of the design, construction and integration disciplines required for offshore wind crew transfer and defence-support craft.
These include high-speed aluminium catamaran construction, crew welfare, machinery-space access, deck-working arrangements, systems integration and compliance-led delivery.
The platform demonstrates how Parkol can work with an established naval architect to configure a proven design around a new mission—whether for crew transfer, patrol, surveillance support or other specialist maritime operations.
Built and supported in the UK
The project was delivered through Parkol’s UK shipbuilding and engineering facilities, bringing together aluminium fabrication, mechanical and electrical installation, outfitting, commissioning and sea trials.
Parkol can also provide planned maintenance, repair, refit and modification support throughout the vessel’s operational life.
